Meike van Riel is currently working on a series of large canvases, in which she extends her scrutiny for simplicity. This simplicity is reflected in the delicate use of color and composition; applying multiple layers and hues within the same line of color. This presents a clean and soothing image at a glance.
A recent collection of large minimalist paintings provide a response to today's complex society. She portrays tranquility and simplicity. She appreciates the viewer transcending into this imagery.
The collection consists of ten works measuring 1.25 by 1.25 meters. These diverse and minimalist pieces all seem to represent a single color, but those who look closely will discover subtle color nuances and consequently grasp the composition. Van Riel challenges the viewer to allow a moment to interpret the work.
